Deep River Completes Undefeated Season with OT Win in Epic Title Game
Sunday, October 28, 2018 -- Fall HOTT Lax scoring leader Hayden Seal (SW Guilford) launched a rocket shot from eight yards out on the left side and scored with 55 seconds gone in sudden death overtime to give Deep River a dramatic 9-8 victory over TBH Bravo in the fall HOTT Lax title game. Bravo extended a 4-2 halftime lead to 6-2 behind the timely goalkeeping of Gabe Parks (Asheboro HS) and the scoring brilliance of East Forsyth teammates Ethan Bormann and Zach Heller before Brenner McDaniel (SW Guilford) led a ferocious Deep River comeback to tie the game at 6-6 with less than 10 minutes remaining. Seal, who had been shut down for most of the game, then scored with 2:04 remaining in regulation to put Deep River ahead 7-6, but Bravo's John Cernava (Asheboro HS) responded with a tying goal with 1:32 remaining. As the game wound down, Deep Rivers's Jared Urbano scored to put his team up with under a minute remaining. After Bravo created a turnover, it was Cernava again with a clutch shot from 12 yards out to tie things up with 3 seconds remaining. Deep River won the overtime faceoff and worked the ball around to their leading scorer, Seal, for the game winner in a HOTT Lax final for the ages. Deep River had qualified for the final with a comfortable win over the War Dogs behind Seal's 6 goals, while Bravo beat TBH Cobra 10-3 in the other semifinal. Congratulations to Deep River, Fall 2018 HOTT Lax Champions!
