HAWKS WIN 4th STRAIGHT ADULT HOTT LAX TITLE
FOUR PEAT'S SAKE! Shannon Robinson dodged from the right wing on man-up and scored at the edge of the crease with 47 seconds left in overtime to give the Adult Hawks a stunning 6-5 victory over the Dashing Camels in the July 1 Adult HOTT Lax championship at Ivey Redmon. The Adult Hawks' combination of wily, yet aging, veterans and energized young legs brought the Hawks their 4th consecutive title over a Dashing Camels team that proved hard to put away. Unlike year's past, however, this one almost got way from the Hawks. In the semifinal, a suddenly full-rostered Hoitie Foity squad that included many former Greensboro College stars took a 5-4 halftime lead over the stunned Hawks before succumbing to the stifling Hawks defense in the second half and losing 7-5. The Camels reached the title game on a second half surge over the Big Cats in a semifinal that ended 12-7. The Camels were led in both the semifinal game and title game by the scrappy goalkeeping of Christian Klimczyk and Bailey Gunter, and aggressive defense led by Brian Holder, and the scoring of Lawrence Piner and Connor Chessock. In the title game, the Camels fell behind 3-2 at the end of the first half and 5-3 as the clock wound down in regulation, but fought back to tie the game and send it into overtime. Each goalie -- Tyler Haines of the Hawks and Bailey Gunter of the Camels -- made a miraculous save in overtime on a point blank shot to keep their teams in it before a late slashing penalty set up Robinson's heroics at the end of overtime. Great lacrosse tonight! Congratulations, Hawks!
